A month in review...

August was a crazy busy month - but the highlight was our trip to Oregon.

We visited Astoria, OR, where a few notable movies have been filmed. My kids love the Goonies, but unfortunately we couldn't see Mikey's house. However we settled for the Astoria Bridge.

A trip south from there took us to Cannon Beach -- a postcard worthy seaside town. With it's quaint little touristy shops and the miles of sandy beaches and the pounding of the ocean, it was romantically peaceful. It's also home to Haystack Rock -- a behemoth set of rocks that extend skyward for 235 feet (or something). Gorgeous.

Waterfalls seem to be in abundance where we stayed, so we drove what we affectionately called "Waterfall Road" -- aka Historic Columbia River Highway, just outside of Portland. Idyllic doesn't begin to describe this 13 mile long road with it's huge canopy of trees. It's breathtaking and my iphone camera doesn't do it justice.

While there are roughly 8 or 9 different waterfalls to check out along this highway, we only stopped at three: LaTourelle Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and the grand-daddy of them all - Multnomah Falls.

The highlight though, was the total solar eclipse. We went to Stayton, OR for this event. Those of you that don't know, we are a family of nerd-nauts, and astronomy is the top of our list of nerdy likes. We'd planned this trip, around this event, for the past 15 months. Yes, we are already in planning for the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024.

My husband had a much better camera than I and captured this beauty:

And that wrapped up our August's highlights. Now we prepare for back to school and getting back into a routine.
What did you do this summer? Did you take in the eclipse at all?

Thanks for reading.
